About the Event

Summer is here, re-openings are chugging along, and that can only mean one thing Hudson Shakespeare Company is back in the parks and returning with one of the Bard’s most hilarious and thought-provoking romps, “Twelfth Night”.

Viola, a young noblewoman, is traveling with her twin brother, Sebastian, where they are involved in a shipwreck and get separated in the mysterious country of Illyria. Viola, thinking Sebastian died in the wreck and not knowing who to trust in this new land, disguises herself as her brother and lands an assistant’s job with the local governor, Count Orsino. Orsino, an incurable romantic is infatuated with rich girl Olivia, but she doesn’t like him like that. Olivia has suffered her own recent family tragedy and just wants to mourn in her way but has to deal with her constantly drunk uncle, Sir Toby, his awkward friend, Sir Andrew, Maria, an assistant who always has plans, and Malvolio, a house manager who wants to rule the roost.

Meanwhile, Olivia falls in love with Viola, Viola is in love with Orsino, Sebastian resurfaces and is pined after by a sailor with their own crazy back story, he then falls for Olivia who she thinks assumes is Viola because they look so much alike. Toby loves beer, Andrew loves partying, Maria loves scheming and Malvolio loves himself. Overseeing all these love affairs is the professional comic Feste who knows all, sees all and is just one step ahead of everyone else. Hudson Shakespeare Company presents this fast-paced comedy of mistaken identities, love quadrangles, and live music with five (5) actors playing multiple parts with quick changes and sketch comedy slant.

All performances are free and open to the public.
