Two Months of Wayne 175th!

With May 2022 coming to a close, it seems like the perfect time to reflect on the beginning of our year-long commemoration of the 175th anniversary of Wayne Township's establishment.

Our festivities started with an in-person kickoff picnic at the Dey Mansion! Despite some showers (and even some hail) early on, the skies cleared, and we had a wonderful afternoon family activities (courtesy of Lokai Rose), community outreach and yummy food, serenaded by the students of Wayne's Bach to Rock!

On May 14th, participants of TAPInto Wayne's WayneQuest scavenger hunt got a historic tour of the township, stopping at sites like the Wayne Museum, Hobart Manor, Terhune Memorial Park, Dotterweich Field, and more! The ending lunch reception, catered by the Taphouse, was held at the Dey Mansion, and over $2,000 in prizes was raffled off! You can read more about the event here, and learn all about each of the stops below!

On May 22nd (National Buy a Musical Instrument Day), we hosted some of Bach to Rock's students for a performance at the Van Riper-Hopper House, one of the Wayne Museum's three sites. Though the weather was a little steamy, it was a perfect day, and all the visitors enjoyed listening to piano, voice, violin, and guitar performances. All the students did an amazing job!

Besides our in-person events, we also launched our Wayne 175th virtual content! On May 21st, we hosted Andrea Tingey for a virtual talk on historic preservation in NJ. Tune into our Facebook and Instagram (@wayne_museum) every Wednesday for our Wayne Wednesdays- so far, our highlights include Reverend Edward Payson Terhune, Preakness and Wayne's horse-racing history, and the Morris Canal. For longer dives into Wayne's history, we've been updating our blog as well as publishing a monthly column with TAPInto Wayne (posted on the 15th of each month). You can check all of these out by following the links below!

We've got plenty planned to celebrate Wayne's 175th this summer! Besides continuing our virtual content, we're looking forward to our Family AG Day series, starting on June 12th at 9am, which will include yoga, meditation, music, family activities, and more! Starting June 30th at 7pm, the Hudson Shakespeare Company will be performing at the Van Riper-Hopper House on select Thursdays throughout the summer. Our event calendar is always growing, so be sure to keep an eye out- if you aren't already, you can also join our mailing list for the latest updates!

We can't wait to engage with you all (virtually and in-person) in the upcoming months and to continue commemorating Wayne's 175th!
